Natalie, age sixteen, born in the deep South to a tobacco farmer and his ultra-religious wife, finds herself pregnant by a prominent married man. The pregnancy opens up her family's history of buried secrets, abuse and lies.
Counseled by the family's minister to adopt out the child or marry the child's father Natalie is torn between a loveless marriage, the loss of her child or a future of shame as an unwed mother.
