"The Giver" by Lois Lowry is an amazing young adult dystopian novel about a world that by all appearances seems to be a utopian paradise and the brave young boy who must challenge it.

"The Giver" takes place in a peaceful future world where war, hunger and pain doesn't exist. People live together in harmony in the Community where no-one wants for anything and the Elders of the community always are right. At the age of twelve every girl and boy in the Community are assigned their future profession by the Elders in an annual ceremony. Jonas is twelve years old and content with the way everything is run. Until the Elders selects him to become the Receiver of Memory, a high-profile role in society, as the Receiver of Memory is the keeper of all history and the only citizen allowed to read books that are not pre-approved.
Jones discovers the flaws of his community and seeks the only man who can help him change the world: the Giver. 

"The Giver" by Lois Lowry was made into a major Hollywood film in 2014 starring Jeff Bridges as the Giver and Brenton Thwaites as Jonas. "The Giver" is the first of four loosely connected novels by Lowry that are set in the same fictional universe.
