Jaylen and Zeriel are sent to the werewolf country of Wolfekin to follow a letter that appears to be written by the recently deceased Axaniel. While they attempt to figure out a way to solve the problems with a demonic rift that has formed in the area, Jaylen's light magic continues to corrode his soul and weaken his body. If he cannot find a way to either control his light magic or fully convert into a fallen paladin, or Tainted, he faces a painful and slow death. With Archangel Carvael set on revenge, Jaylen and Zeriel must remain hidden with the help of their demon friends until their few remaining allies find a way to keep Jaylen safe from being sacrificed by the clergy he used to trust.
