Artemis is sent to the moon Oneiros on the spaceship Chimera to look for organisms that will help assuage global warming. It becomes apparent on the planet that there are other reasons for her mission, including the search for a missing spaceship that visited some years earlier. The crew are accompanied by dryads, sophisticated androids with AI and synthetic bodies. On the flight, the ship's research scientist, Ivan, mysteriously disappears from the ship.Artemis starts to develop strong feelings for one of the dryads, having experienced betrayal with her partner, the owner of the company financing the space trip, left behind on Earth.On the moon, reality becomes unstable and the crew become haunted by strange dark shadows that seem to infect the crew and destroy their minds. Ivan strangely reappears on the moon. Artemis finally discovers what horrific fate has befallen the previous crew.Artemis returns to earth to write the book Chimera, a mixture of memories from her trip to Oneiros and influences from the various films and books that she has experienced.This is a story of horror, exploring themes of artificial intelligence, consciousness and reality.
