DeWayne is the only one in first grade who has a great-grandmother. Ma Minnie spends her days in a rolling chair now because her legs are worn out, but when DeWayne gets old enough to drive, he plans to take her to school for show-and-tell. For now, he waits until she s in the mood for storytelling and lets her know he sure would enjoy hearing about Mr. Fat--like the time he ran off from home and built himself trouble in a sugarcane house.
