Tracheostomy and aspects related to the decannulation process
Tracheostomy is one of the oldest surgical procedures and is commonly performed among patients who are generally critical, and is performed through a conventional surgical incision or through percutaneous dilatation in the anterior region of the neck (trachea) with the introduction of a tracheostomy tube. Thus, the objective of this book is to describe the aspects related to the decannulation process, with emphasis on the team involved, the advantages, the protocols, the success and failure criteria, as well as the average time for the completion of this process, the places that this procedure can be performed, the physiological changes that occur, and the care after the decannulation process.
