Sage Connelly has been carrying a huge secret most of her life. She can see and interact with souls of people that have passed on, hindering her ability to live her life the same way most others do.

Sage manages to find some stability at the local police department, getting hired to help solve cases using her talents with charcoal and paper. Unknowingly, Sage is thrust into the center of a decades-old local mystery. A serial killer is taking victims right out from under the noses of the Lawrence, Kansas Police Department.

As Sage's relationship with one of the officers grows deeper during the investigation, she struggles with how much of the secret part of her life she should allow him to know.
