First known as the "Central Institute for Intelligence and Security", the Mossad was born on April 1st, 1951, an initiative of the Prime Minister David Ben Gurion, who fixed the new agency' s priority: "For our state, which since its creation has been constantly besieged by its enemies, intelligence is the first line of defense ...] we must learn to analyze what is happening around us".
