Small Faces were a rock group from London, England, UK, founded during 1965. Their original members were Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones & Jimmy Winston, with Ian McLagan replacing Jimmy as the band's keyboardist in 1966. Small Faces was one of the most celebrated and influential mod groups of the mid. '60s, recording hits including Itchycoo Park, Lazy Sunday, All or Nothing & Tin Soldier, along with their concept album Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake. They later evolved into one of the UK's most successful psychedelic bands by 1969. When Steve left to form Humble Pie, rather than splitting-up, the 3 remaining members collaborated with Ronnie Wood, his older brother Art Wood, Rod Stewart and Kim Gardner, issuing 4 tracks under the name of Quiet Melon, after which Art & Kim left with the remaining 5 members becoming Faces, except in North America, where the group's 1st L.P. was credited to Small Faces. This practice continued on all subsequent North American re-releases of the album. Following the breakup of both Faces and Humble Pie, the classic line-up of the band re-formed, comprising Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan & Kenney Jones, during the latter part of that year after a re-issue of Itchycoo Park became a top-10 hit. Lane soon departed, being replaced by Rick Wills, who later joined Foreigner. The 5 piece line-up, dubbed Mk-II by Steve, recorded 1 L.P. Playmates before recruiting Jimmy McCulloch but released only '78 in the Shade' before splitting up. Small Faces are regarded as one of the early inspirations for, or an early root of, the Britpop movement of the '90s. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during 2012.
